Playstation is the most popular console on the market. It competes with xbox for number one. Hacking accounts by other players is a common problem. This is done not only to access credit card information but also to steal progress of other players on certain games. To achieve certain levels or achievements, people can spend hours, days, and even weeks on video games. These accounts can be used for personal gain or sold for a large amount. As the account owner, it can be very frustrating to see all of your hard work disappear seemingly without any explanation. These are some things you can do in order to ensure your account is not hacked via playstation.
2FA
Two factor authentication is the best and easiest way to ensure you aren’t hacked. Fortnite has a great way to do this. They offered a free skin (in-game character outfit) to anyone who enabled it. It was an amazing strategy that people signed up for, not knowing why. The reason they did it was that someone cannot login to an account with only your username and password if 2FA is enabled. 2FA sends a code via email or phone to you when you attempt to log in. If a hacker has access to these codes, they will not be able to login. If you get random codes, even if you aren’t trying to log in, it means someone is trying to log into your account. You can change your password immediately. You can activate 2FA with ps4
Go to [Settings]>> [Account Management]> [Account Information]> [Security].
- Next, select [2-Step Verification], and then select [Set up Now].
- Enter your mobile number carefully and click [Add].
- After clicking [Add], you’ll receive a text with a verification code.
- Enter the text verification code on the PS4(tm).
- An SMS is sent to your mobile phone verifying activation of 2-step verification.
- Next screen will confirm that the 2-step verification has been activated. Your accounts will be closed on all PlayStation devices. To choose the best option for your needs, make sure to read the information on screen. Click “OK”.
- Make single-use backup codes. Backup codes are needed if your phone is unable to receive text messages, is lost or stolen, or has a dead battery. So make sure you keep them safe.
Strong Passwords
Passwords should be difficult to guess. People’s accounts are often hacked by weak passwords. When creating a password, keep it between 8-12 characters in length, and use numbers, special characters, and lowercase and uppercase. Avoid using numbers in sequences like 1234. This increases the likelihood that someone will be able to guess your password.
Do not share your account information with anyone
If you don’t want to be hacked, don’t divulge your account information. Many young gamers fall for tricks to get their account information. They promise them money, help, or other benefits. Do not do it. Only close friends and family should have access to your account. Even then, they may take your account. You should change your password if you give your account to someone from your friend or family group. This will prevent them from hacking your account if they have an argument or fall out.
Do not click on strange links
You should be cautious about any link to the PSN website coming from someone you don’t know or with a strange looking URL. A common trick is to make a website that is identical to the PSN site. When someone clicks the link, they enter their login information and it is sent to hackers instead. They then refresh the page and redirect to the real website, so you can login without ever realizing that something is wrong.
Keep Your Real Name
PSN allows you to hide your real identity from anyone, even close friends. This may be an option for you if you are looking to add friends you have met online to play with in the future. People shouldn’t be able to look you up or find any information about your private life without your permission. They can make use of the information to impersonate your identity and eventually gain access to your account. You can hide your real identity on PS4
- Visit the profile page on the main homepage
- Click on the three dots beside online status to access Privacy Settings
- Choose personal info messaging
- Choose no one of the three real names options
You can use a different email to access your PSN
Half of the information needed to hack your PSN account is contained in your email address. It is a smart idea to set up an email address for your PSN if you are worried about being hacked. It’s unlikely anyone will ever know your login email and they will need to do twice as much work.
Use Good Security Question
You will need to answer security questions in order to reset your password or prove that you are the account’s owner. You should not make your security questions vague enough for anyone to guess you. This will make it easier to hack your account.
Don’t join parties with people you don’t know
A few of my friends have been hacked after attending parties with people they don’t know. Although I don’t know of any direct methods that hackers could use to hack your computer, it is possible to give out information about yourself, such as who you are, where and when you live, what you eat, and other details. This information could be used to guess security questions or impersonate you for customer service. You should be careful about who you speak to online.
What should you do if your account is hacked
If you are hacked, call PSN support immediately. Here’s the information you need to know in advance to increase your chances of getting help.
1) Your account email before it was hacked.
2) The time frame in which the password and email were changed
3) Your address and any phone numbers you linked to it
4) PSN ID
5) Always be prepared to answer security questions
